In Detail

SUPPORTS JOINT STRUCTURE

Glucosamine HCl

High levels of the purest Glucosamine HCl (99.8%) provide the core building blocks of cartilage – the tough connective tissue that protects the joint.

Chondroitin

Natural Chondroitin, sourced from ActivEase® Green Lipped Mussel, helps to maintain healthy joints for longer.

HELPS MOBILITY

Hyaluronic Acid

Increased levels of Hyaluronic Acid provides maximum support for the joint, helping to lubricate your horse’s joints and cushion them from impact during rigorous exercise and training.

Vitamin C & Vitamin E

Vitamin C and Vitamin E also provide powerful antioxidants to help maintain mobility, neutralising free radicals in the joint caused during exercise.

SUPPORT STIFF JOINTS

ActivEase® Green Lipped Mussel

Higher levels of triple strength ActivEase® Green Lipped Mussel provides increased amounts of two unique Omega 3 EFAs to aid the body’s own natural anti-inflammatory process after rigorous training. This helps to ease stiffness after exercise and maintain mobility.

AIDS JOINT INTEGRITY

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)

Scientifically proven levels of MSM helps to support the structure of connective tissues surrounding the joint and aids muscle recovery. It has also been shown to support recovery after exercise.

Question:
Can it be used on those with diabetes?

Answer:

There isn’t a known problem in giving products in the YuMOVE range to diabetic animals. In horses a ‘type 2 diabetes’ could be considered equivalent to Equine Metabolic Disease (EMS). Although horses suffering from EMS will be on a strict calorie controlled diet, YuMOVE can be fed as part of this. In reality, the risk of Laminitis in these horses means that all support for maintaining activity should be continued where possible.

There is some discussion about whether the saccharide molecules, e.g., Glucosamine and Chondroitin, can affect glucose levels/insulin requirements but this has never been demonstrated. In diabetic human’s Glucosamine and Chondroitin have been given in studies to no adverse effect and one review of these studies looking specifically at Glucosamine states that given the evidence, it has no effect on blood glucose or insulin sensitivity in diabetic people. Also in studies in normal dogs that are supplemented with Glucosamine and Chondroitin, these have not altered glucose metabolism.

Additionally, many diabetic dogs and cats are taking YuMOVE without problems.

Question:
Horses with Cushing’s Disease?

Answer:

Cushing’s is a problem with the Pituitary gland, causing an imbalance of hormones – particularly cortisol, causing lots of symptoms

It is important to note that there are no known issues with feeding joint supplements and specifically YuMOVE HORSE Joint & YuMOVE HORSE Active Joint to horses and ponies with ‘Cushing’s’ disease/PPID.

A horse with managed and treated Cushing’s is fine to have supplements, and will even benefit from them more because of the stress on joints it causes. In fact, the nature of the disease means that there may be a benefit in joint supplements if the horse or pony is showing accelerated signs of stiffness and ageing. Advice with regards to the Cushings disease should be sort from the responsible veterinary surgeon as should any direct concerns with feeding.

Cushing’s, Laminitis and Insulin Resistance (EMS), although all different disorders, are all linked by fat/lack of exercise/too much concentrate feed in diet, creating almost a vicious cycle.

Question:
Will YuMOVE HORSE Joint/YuMOVE HORSE Active Joint be OK to feed my Laminitic horse?

Answer:

There is no specific issue with feeding joint supplements and specifically YuMOVE to horses or ponies with laminitis, but advice should always be sort from a responsible veterinary surgeon as to management and diet in all cases of laminitis.
